AfD disputes Christmas tree with state parliament - Far-Right AfD Sparks Outrage Over Christmas Tree in German Parliament

A row has broken out in North Rhine-Westphalia’s state parliament after far-right party AfD placed a Christmas tree in the plenary chamber. Staff later removed it, citing concerns over damage to the newly renovated parquet flooring. The AfD accused officials of political bias, while administrators insisted the decision was purely practical.

The dispute began when the AfD organised an event called Christmas in the Shadow of Terror in the Landtag building. Despite a verbal warning against placing decorations in the chamber, the party set up a Christmas tree there. Parliament staff then took it down to prevent potential harm to the freshly restored wooden floor.

The Christmas tree has been taken away, and the parquet flooring remains undamaged. The AfD’s event proceeded without it, though the party has kept up its objections. Parliament officials have made no further changes to existing holiday decorations in other parts of the building.
