Protests Accompany AfD Meeting in Neumünster - Far-right AfD youth launch sparks massive counter-protests in Neumünster
A planned launch event for the AfD’s youth wing in Neumünster has drawn strong opposition. Hundreds gathered to protest against the far-right organisation, while police maintained a heavy presence in the area. The event itself was expected to attract only a fraction of the counter-demonstrators’ numbers.
The AfD’s youth group, Generation Deutschland, was officially founded on 29 November 2025 in Gießen. Its federal chairman, Jean-Pascal Hohm, leads the organisation, though no speaker was announced for the Neumünster event.
By midday on 1 January 2026, around 500 people had joined counter-protests in the city. The AfD’s own gathering, meanwhile, was set to bring in just 80 to 100 attendees. Authorities responded by deploying large numbers of officers. Police closely monitored both the protest and the AfD event to prevent clashes.
The launch of the AfD’s youth wing in Neumünster faced immediate resistance. With counter-demonstrators outnumbering supporters, the event highlighted deep divisions. Police maintained order as the situation unfolded.
