Some of the people are wearing caps and masks, and there is a ribbon with a pole in the foreground. Far-right AfD youth rally in Fulda-Johannesberg sparks major traffic restrictions

A major gathering organised by the youth wing of the far-right AfD party's Hesse branch will take place in Fulda-Johannesberg on March 28. Local authorities have announced extensive traffic restrictions to manage the event's impact on the area. Residents and visitors are being advised to plan ahead as road closures and diversions come into force. From 6 PM on Friday, access to Von-Mengersen-Straße between Pionierstraße and Wehrstraße will be blocked. The restrictions will remain in place until around 7 PM on Saturday. Drivers heading to or from Zirkenbach, Zell, and Istergiesel will need to follow detours via Westring and Gieseler Straße (L3079).

Despite the road closures, bus services will continue to run as normal. Out-of-town buses will park at the Auerweiher starting point, ensuring public transport remains unaffected. Police will maintain a strong presence throughout the event to monitor the situation and respond if needed. Authorities have emphasised their commitment to upholding public order while respecting the right to peaceful assembly. Under German law, such gatherings are protected by Article 8(1) of the Basic Law, guaranteeing freedom of assembly for all participants.

The event is expected to draw significant attention, with traffic disruptions lasting until Saturday evening. Local officials have reassured the public that measures are in place to keep the gathering peaceful and lawful. Residents and travellers are encouraged to check for updates and allow extra time for journeys during the restrictions.
