Farewell to Hero: 98-Year-Old WWII Veteran Vasily Serdyukov Honored in Astana
A farewell ceremony was held for Vasily Antonovich Serdyukov, a 98-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War. The event took place in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan, with full military honors.
Born in 1926 in Bogdanovka, Vasily Serdyukov was conscripted into the Red Army at 17. His combat service spanned from 1943 to 1945, during which he participated in numerous significant battles. He fought in the liberation of Minsk and Warsaw, crossed the Vistula, Oder, and Spree rivers, and played a crucial role in the Battle of Berlin and the assault on the Seelow Heights. His bravery was recognized with the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class, and several medals, including the Medal for Courage and the Medal for the Capture of Warsaw.
The ceremony was attended by veterans of the Armed Forces, representatives of Astana’s city administration, and members of the youth patriotic movement Zhas Sarbaz. It marked the end of an era for a man who had served his country with distinction.
