Father caught driving with unsecured child lighting a cigarette on his lap

A 22-year-old man was stopped by police on the A8 motorway near Unterhaching last Friday afternoon. Officers discovered his four-year-old son sitting unsecured on his lap while the child attempted to light a cigarette with a lighter. The driver also presented a fake licence during the traffic stop.

The incident unfolded when police pulled over the BMW on the A8. Inside, they found the young boy unrestrained, despite a child seat being stored in the trunk. The father, who does not hold a valid licence, had been driving with the child on his lap.

The child was seen trying to ignite a cigarette lighter while the car was in motion. Authorities later confirmed the driver had shown a counterfeit licence during the stop. Prosecutors have now launched criminal proceedings against the man for forgery and unlicensed driving. His girlfriend, the car's registered owner, also faces charges for permitting an unlicensed driver to use her vehicle. Child protective services have been alerted to the case. In addition to the criminal investigation, the father will receive a fine for failing to secure his child properly in the car.

The case has led to formal charges against both the father and his girlfriend. Child protective services will assess the child's welfare following the incident. The father now faces legal consequences for driving without a licence, document forgery, and endangering his son.
