Near-fatal shots outside a bar: Seven years in prison - Father Sentenced to 7 Years for Near-Fatal Shooting in Berlin Bar
A 47-year-old man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for a near-fatal shooting outside a bar in Berlin-Lichtenberg. The incident, which took place on January 2, 2023, also resulted in a juvenile sentence for his 20-year-old son. The victim, a 33-year-old man, survived after emergency surgery.
The father and son had arrived at the bar for a prearranged meeting linked to the victim's debts. During the encounter, the 47-year-old initially assaulted the victim in a back room before being forced out. He then fired three shots at the man, leading to his conviction for attempted manslaughter and grievous bodily harm.
The 47-year-old admitted to the events inside the bar during the trial at the Berlin Landgericht but denied firing the shots. Despite this, the court largely followed the prosecution's sentencing request, which had sought eight years for the father and a suspended sentence of one and a half years for the son. The son received a juvenile sentence of one year and six months, suspended.
The 47-year-old was arrested ten days after the incident and released from pretrial detention after roughly three months. The ruling is not yet final. The victim's survival was attributed to emergency surgery following the shooting. The court's decision sends a strong message against such violent acts.
