FDP State Leader Vogt: Hope for Government Participation - FDP eyes coalition comeback in 2027 Schleswig-Holstein election
The Free Democratic Party (FDP) in Schleswig-Holstein is looking to regain influence after the 2027 state election. Party leader Christopher Vogt has signalled openness to coalition talks with both the CDU and the SPD. His comments come as the FDP seeks to rebuild its standing in regional politics.
Vogt highlighted the FDP’s ambition to play a key role in government, following years of reduced media visibility since the 2021 federal election. He noted dissatisfaction among CDU voters with the current black-green coalition, suggesting potential common ground.
A motion led by Heiner Garg proposes reintroducing military and alternative service in stages over four years. Another proposal encourages former conscripts under 40 to join reserve units for homeland defence. Delegates will also discuss speeding up the development of modern security structures in the region.
Vogt admitted that conscription remains a divisive topic. He also pointed to difficulties in expanding or reactivating Bundeswehr bases, including the former Naval Air Wing 5 site in Kiel-Holtenau. A decision on the site’s future is expected by February 2026.
The FDP’s push for a coalition role reflects its aim to demonstrate governing competence once again. With debates on defence reforms and base reactivation ahead, the party’s position could shape Schleswig-Holstein’s political landscape. The outcome of these discussions will determine the FDP’s influence in the coming years.
