FDP rallies in Wiesbaden with Kubicki ahead of 2026 local elections

The Free Democratic Party (FDP) in Wiesbaden hosted a campaign event at Henkel Palace to highlight its national connections and local priorities. Wolfgang Kubicki, a long-standing FDP member and former vice president of the German Bundestag, headlined the gathering as part of the party's push for the 2026 local elections.

The evening included policy discussions, voter interactions, and a keynote speech on economic freedom and individual responsibility.

Kubicki, a lawyer since 1985 and FDP member since 1971, opened with a speech on market economics and the role of the state. He criticised excessive regulation, arguing for greater individual freedom and merit-based opportunities. His remarks also targeted the Citybahn project in Wiesbaden, warning of financial risks and referencing the 2020 citizen referendum that opposed it.

On education, he called for stricter language requirements and performance standards in schools. Integration policy was another focus, with Kubicki insisting that long-term residents must learn German and actively participate in society.

Christian Diers, the FDP's lead candidate in Wiesbaden, addressed local economic challenges. He outlined plans to boost the city's competitiveness but did not provide specific data on recent sentiment shifts regarding economic development or urban appeal.

The event wrapped up with a speed-dating session. FDP candidates answered voter questions in small groups, offering a direct exchange ahead of the upcoming elections.

The FDP's Wiesbaden event underscored its national profile while tackling local issues like infrastructure, education, and economic policy. Kubicki's presence reinforced the party's campaign, blending broader ideological themes with city-specific concerns. The discussions aimed to engage voters as the 2026 elections approach.
