News Article: German Federal Police Orders H225 Helicopters for Law Enforcement and Homeland Security Missions
The German Federal Police has placed an order for up to 44 H225 helicopters from Airbus Helicopters, marking a significant step in enhancing its capabilities for law enforcement and homeland security missions.
The H225, a long-range, heavy-lift helicopter, is renowned for its ability to operate effectively in demanding conditions, making it an ideal choice for the Federal Police. With a maximum takeoff weight of 11,160 kg, the H225 offers an increased range of more than 832 kilometers and an unmatched external payload of 4,750 kg.
The versatile aircraft is configured to suit multiple mission roles such as emergency services, law enforcement, personnel transport, and security enforcement. It is equipped with various mission-tailored equipment, including forward-looking infrared (FLIR) cameras, real-time data links, rescue hoists, searchlights, and night vision compatibility, enhancing situational awareness and operational effectiveness during surveillance, border control, or emergency response tasks.
The H225 is the latest member of Airbus Helicopters' Super Puma family, which has accumulated over 6 million flight hours. It features an improved main gearbox and an extended health and usage monitoring system, increasing safety and helping to save costs.
Airbus Helicopters aims for the H225 to be able to fly with 100 percent sustainable aviation fuel by 2030, reflecting a commitment to environmental sustainability. The H225 will replace the H155 and AS332 helicopters that have been in service with the German Federal Police for more than 20 years.
Deliveries of the H225 are scheduled to start in 2029, with the order including 38 firm orders with options for a further six helicopters. The German Bundespolizei currently operates 94 Airbus helicopters, making the H225 a significant addition to its fleet.
Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters, expressed pride in the H225 contributing to German security and aiding citizens in need. The H225 offers outstanding endurance and fast cruise speed, making it suitable for long-duration missions. It is also equipped with state-of-the-art electronic instruments and renowned autopilot precision.
The partnership between the German Bundespolicei and Airbus Helicopters began in 1962 with the operation of the Alouette II, a predecessor company of Airbus. The H225, as the latest variant of the Super Puma family, continues this long-standing relationship, promising to deliver superior performance and reliability in the 11-tonne twin-engine category, offering the industry's best range, speed, payload, and reliability.
The German Federal Police's acquisition of H225 helicopters will bolster their capabilities in various sectors, such as finance, technology, and aerospace, thanks to the aircraft's advanced equipment and performance. Equipped with real-time data links and night vision compatibility, the H225 is a powerful tool for law enforcement and homeland security missions, enhancing situational awareness and operational efficiency.
