Feldafing's election reshapes town council with CSU's landslide victory
Feldafing's latest town council election has brought major changes to the political balance. Several parties saw significant gains and losses, reshaping the local government. The results mark a clear shift from previous years, with new faces and altered representation on the council.
The CSU emerged as the biggest winner, climbing 7.8 points to 32.4%. This surge earned the party five of the 16 council seats—an increase of five—and positioned Matthias Schremser as the designated mayor. His strong appeal to voters played a key role in the party's success.
The AUF also made notable progress, rising by 6.9 points to 18.9%. This result secured them the second-highest share and three council seats. Meanwhile, the FDP saw a 5.3-point boost to 11.8%, gaining two representatives, with top candidate Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger contributing to the growth. The Greens experienced a decline, dropping 5.5 points to 17.7% and losing one seat. The BGF suffered the most dramatic fall, plunging 18.6 points to just 9.4% after former mayor Bernhard Sontheim did not stand for re-election. This loss cost the party three seats, ending its 24-year hold on the mayoral position. Additionally, the AfD will now have a council member for the first time. The next communal elections are set for March 8, 2026, with no further shifts expected before then.
The election results confirm the CSU's dominance in Feldafing, while the BGF's long-standing influence has weakened. The AUF and FDP have strengthened their positions, and the AfD will enter the council for the first time. These changes will shape local decision-making until the next vote in 2026.
