Fifty families in Abai Region receive keys to new rental apartments
Fifty families in Abai Region have received new rental apartments under a government housing programme. The latest handover took place at the newly built Abai Eli residential complex in Semey, where officials marked the occasion with a ceremonial key presentation.
The Abai Eli complex includes several 14-storey buildings, totalling 219 apartments. Each block is named after notable figures from Kazakh culture. Olesya Agapitova, a local resident, was among those who collected keys to her new home during the event.
Governor Berik Uali and Lazzat Ibragimova, Chair of Otbasy Bank, attended the ceremony. The project forms part of wider efforts to expand housing in the region, with 327 rental apartments acquired in the regional capital this year alone. Under the Abai Zhasitary programme, another 40 apartments will soon be allocated. By the end of 2025, the initiative aims to deliver 10,000 additional homes across Abai Region. Priority has been given to large families, vulnerable groups, and orphans from the waiting list. Last year, three residential buildings covering 16,000 square metres were completed in Semey's Karagaily microdistrict. Two more blocks, spanning 11,000 square metres, are set for completion before the end of this year. A further 360 rental apartments will also be purchased for allocation through Otbasy Bank.
The new apartments address housing shortages for eligible residents in Abai Region. With ongoing construction and planned allocations, the programme continues to expand access to affordable homes. Officials have confirmed that further phases will roll out as scheduled.
