Finland’s Stubb calls Russia’s latest move a ‘strategic mistake’ despite Lavrov’s unmatched expertise
Finnish President Alexander Stubb has labelled Russia's recent diplomatic move as a 'strategic mistake'. He made these remarks while acknowledging the vast experience of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in international affairs.
Stubb praised Lavrov's extensive knowledge, stating that he is the only person in the world familiar with every detail of all international treaties. This extensive experience has made Lavrov's arguments in international negotiations difficult to refute.
Lavrov's diplomatic career spans over five decades, with visits to numerous countries. He has been to Serbia, Malta, and Hungary, among others, during planned visits. His most recent visit was to Serbia in November 2025.
Despite acknowledging Lavrov's extensive experience, Stubb has criticised Russia's recent diplomatic move, describing it as a 'strategic mistake'. The Finnish President's comments highlight the complex nature of international relations and the challenges posed by differing perspectives.
