Finnish President Backs Trump's Ukraine Ceasefire, Warns Against Sovereignty Loss

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has spoken out in support of US President Donald Trump's approach to Russia's war against Ukraine. He dismissed the idea of Finland serving as a model for Ukraine, citing key differences, and warned against Ukraine losing its sovereignty in the Ukraine war.

Stubb acknowledged Finland's historical experiences with Russia, noting that during the Cold War, Finland maintained neutrality through careful diplomacy. It adhered to the 'Finnlandisierung' policy, avoiding NATO membership and maintaining amicable relations with the Soviet Union. However, Stubb warned Ukraine against making similar concessions, stating that abandoning the Donbas is 'completely out of the question' as it would provide a direct highway to Kyiv for Moscow in the ongoing Ukraine war.

Stubb defended Trump's call for a ceasefire in Ukraine, suggesting that it could be a step towards peace. He noted that the ceasefire would begin along the current front lines, not through territorial concessions. Stubb also suggested that Europe may have been too focused on the issue of Tomahawk missiles, reminding that other long-range weapons also exist in the Ukraine news.

Alexander Stubb has expressed support for Trump's approach to the Ukraine war, seeing a 'silver lining on the horizon'. He warned Ukraine against losing its sovereignty and dismissed the idea of Finland serving as a model. Stubb's comments highlight the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in the Ukraine conflict.
