Firefighters rescue cat Phoebe from Solingen apartment blaze
A residential fire broke out on Deusberger Straße in Solingen on Sunday afternoon. Emergency services received the call at around 2:14 p.m. after neighbours spotted smoke coming from the building. Two professional fire engines and a volunteer unit rushed to the scene immediately.
When firefighters arrived, they found thick smoke billowing from the property and a shattered windowpane. The blaze had started due to a suspected technical fault in a power strip, according to early investigations. Neighbours' quick response in raising the alarm helped prevent a more serious 'flash-over' situation.
Inside the smoke-filled apartment, crews located and rescued a cat named Phoebe. The animal was given oxygen at the scene before being taken to a vet for further care. Meanwhile, a large crowd gathered to watch the operation unfold. The road remained closed for roughly 90 minutes, causing minor delays for drivers. Firefighters worked efficiently to secure the area and ensure no further risks remained.
The incident caused limited damage thanks to the prompt actions of both neighbours and emergency services. The cat, Phoebe, is now receiving veterinary attention after being pulled from the smoke. Authorities have not yet announced any additional safety measures for the area.
