Squirrel Climbs Up - Firefighters stage daring 14-meter rescue to save trapped squirrel
A squirrel found itself stuck 14 metres up a residential building in Braunschweig after getting tangled in climbing plants. Unable to free itself, the animal prompted a rescue operation involving specialist firefighters. The team worked carefully to bring the squirrel down safely.
Residents first spotted the trapped squirrel and contacted local animal rescue responders. However, their standard equipment couldn't reach the animal at such a height. The fire department's high-angle rescue team, known as the Hochseilrettungsgruppe der Feuerwehr Braunschweig, was then called in to handle the tricky situation.
Firefighters accessed the building's roof before rappelling down to where the squirrel was caught. One firefighter gently worked to free the animal from the tangled vines. Once released, the squirrel was taken to a veterinarian for a precautionary checkup.
The operation successfully removed the squirrel from the climbing plants without injury. After a brief veterinary examination, the animal was cleared for release. The fire department's specialist team ensured a smooth rescue at height.
