Five charged in Kalashnikov embezzlement and arms smuggling scandal
Five individuals now face criminal charges in a high-profile case involving embezzlement and smuggling. The accusations centre on the misuse of funds from Kalashnikov Concern JSC and the illegal import of weapons parts. Court proceedings have already shifted from Ivanovo to the Moscow region as the investigation widens. The Oktyabrsky District Court in Ivanovo initially handled the case before transferring it to the Khimki City Court in Moscow Oblast. Among the accused are Alexey Morokhov, Yury Chernyshev, Alexey Ledenev, Olga Firsova, and R.A. Rubtsov. Investigators claim they falsified documents submitted to the Sheremetyevo Customs Electronic Declaration Center to conceal their activities.
The group allegedly purchased weapons components from China and disguised them as ordinary nuts and bolts during import. Alongside smuggling charges, they are accused of embezzling over 37 million rubles from Kalashnikov Concern JSC. Ksenia Grashchenkova, the company’s procurement and logistics director, is also under investigation for abusing her position while fulfilling a state defence order.
Alexey Morokhov faces an additional charge of failing to pay more than 1 million rubles in wages to employees of Intertekhnika. The case now rests with the Khimki City Court, where the defendants will answer to multiple serious charges. If convicted, they could face significant penalties for embezzlement, smuggling, and document forgery. The outcome may also impact Kalashnikov Concern’s internal operations and future state contracts.
