Five Nations Unite to Crack Down on Visa Fraud and Protect Migrants
Governments from five nations have joined forces to combat visa fraud and safeguard migrants from scams. The initiative, launched during International Fraud Awareness Week, seeks to fortify border security and enhance public awareness. Australia is spearheading the campaign in Bangladesh, where fraudsters increasingly target visa applicants with false promises and counterfeit documents.
The Australian High Commission in Dhaka has initiated a collaborative effort named Combating Visa Fraud from November 16 to 22. Local partners include the Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL), the Department of Immigration and Passports (DIP), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The campaign cautions applicants about criminals masquerading as migration agents, offering phony visa assurances or demanding payments via unofficial channels.
The campaign will host workshops, disseminate alerts, and guide applicants to authentic resources. Authorities advise vigilance when encountering unsolicited visa propositions or payment demands. By 2026, the initiative aspires to diminish fraud cases and bolster migrant protections globally.
