Flight crew unions threaten December strike over labour rights dispute

Flight crew unions have rejected a new labour package proposed by the government. They claim the changes weaken workers' rights and could affect flight safety. A potential strike now looms, with key decisions expected in the coming days.

The dispute centres on a government proposal that alters minimum service rules and introduces flexible scheduling. Unions argue these adjustments would undermine job security and parental rights for airline staff.

The cabin crew union, known as Ufo, has called a general assembly for 25 November 2025 to decide on joining a wider strike. If approved, cabin staff would walk out on 11 December. Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Pilots’ Union has warned it may also take action unless the government revises its plans.

A final decision on the strike will be made next week. If the unions proceed, travel disruptions could follow in December. The government has yet to respond to the unions’ demands.
