Football fan assaulted in Wiesbaden after club allegiance dispute

A 22-year-old man was beaten in Wiesbaden's city center early Saturday morning because he is a fan of a particular football club, police in Wiesbaden reported.

At around 12:15 a.m., three men approached the victim in Häfnergasse and asked him about his allegiance to the club, even though he was not wearing any fan gear. When he confirmed his support for the team, the attackers restrained him and struck him repeatedly in the face. The trio then fled toward the market square. The 22-year-old sustained minor injuries in the assault.

Police later identified a 24-year-old man as one of the suspected perpetrators. The other two attackers are believed to be around the same age.

Wiesbaden's criminal investigation division is seeking any information from the public.
