Former Interior Department official exits after clash with Trump administration
Tony Irish, a former associate solicitor for the Division of General Law, has left the Interior Department. Irish departed in September, following a dispute with the Trump administration's downsizing team earlier in the year. Two other officials, who were also placed on leave, accepted 'deferred resignation' incentives to leave their jobs.
Irish's departure comes after a series of events that began in the spring. He was initially placed on leave alongside two other officials. In April, a former official of the Interior Authority, backed by another official named Heinz, attempted to dismiss Irish. Irish fought this effort and managed to keep his position until September.
Before his role as associate solicitor, Irish joined the Interior Department in 2004 as a financial specialist. After his departure, he started using LinkedIn to publicly critique the administration's activities.
Tony Irish's tenure at the Interior Department ended in September 2021, following a dispute and attempted dismissal earlier in the year. Two other officials who were also placed on leave have since accepted 'deferred resignation' incentives. Irish is now using professional networking platforms to express his views on the administration's activities.
