Princess Diana was 'cold and distant' - Former King Juan Carlos Denies Diana Affair in Memoirs
Former King Juan Carlos of Spain has addressed long-standing rumors about his relationship with the late Princess Diana in his forthcoming memoirs. The two royals spent time together at the Spanish royal family's Marivent Palace in Palma de Mallorca during the late 1980s, sparking speculation about a possible affair. Juan Carlos, who abdicated in 2014 after nearly 39 years as King of Spain, has denied having an affair with Princess Diana. In his book, he describes her as 'cold, taciturn, distant'. However, Princess Diana herself had previously expressed that she found Juan Carlos 'a little too attentive' during their time together, but insisted that nothing happened between them. The rumors emerged after their vacation at Marivent Palace in the late 1980s. During this time, Juan Carlos was mainly associated with Princess Diana and her sons, Princes William and Harry, who visited the palace. No other significant public connections with additional persons at that time are noted beyond this royal circle. Juan Carlos moved to Abu Dhabi in 2020 to support his son, King Felipe VI, and improve the monarchy's reputation following a series of scandals. His decision to address the rumors about his relationship with Princess Diana in his memoirs comes as he seeks to set the record straight on his past.
