Drugs Worth Millions: Former Investigator Denies Betrayal - Former Narcotics Officer on Trial for Aiding Drug Traffickers
A former senior detective, aged 44, is currently on trial at Darmstadt Regional Court. The defendant, a former Narcotics Officer, stands accused of aiding drug traffickers and breaching official secrets over roughly two dozen cases. The trial, which began recently, is set to resume on October 28.
The prosecution alleges that the defendant, while in law enforcement, tipped off multiple dealers about police operations and tactics between 2018 and 2022. This allowed traffickers to transport cannabis, worth millions of euros, from Spain into the Offenbach area, concealed in everyday products like tinned tomatoes.
The defendant has admitted to private contact and chats with one of the traffickers, attributing it to their shared passion for motorcycles. However, he maintains his innocence, stating in a 2022 investigation: 'I did not commit the acts I am accused of.' He claimed that a €30,000 cash deposit into his account came from selling a motorcycle.
The defendant has been in pretrial detention since November 2024 and remained silent during the first day of proceedings. The traffickers involved have since been convicted, though their sentences are not yet final. The authority leading the investigation remains unclear.
The trial of the former Narcotics Officer continues, with the next hearing scheduled for October 28. The defendant faces charges of aiding drug traffickers and breaching official secrets. The outcome of the trial will determine the final sentences for both the defendant and the convicted traffickers.
