Former PM Oli Demands Reinstatement of Nepal's Dissolved House
Nepal's former Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has called for the reinstatement of the dissolved House of Representatives, warning that the country's future is at stake. Oli, who was removed from office following the deadly Gen-Z protests in September, insists the dissolution was unconstitutional.
Oli's demand comes after interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki dissolved the House at midnight on September 12, just hours after her appointment under Article 61 of the Constitution. Oli, who was replaced by Karki, believes the dissolution was illegitimate and has urged the restoration of the House to maintain constitutional order.
Oli's tenure ended amidst widespread protests, leaving 19 people dead. His departure paved the way for Karki's interim government. However, Oli has expressed doubts about the government's commitment to holding elections on time, with the next polls scheduled for March 5, 2023. He has not confirmed whether his party will participate in these elections.
Oli's call for the reinstatement of the House of Representatives highlights the ongoing political tensions in Nepal. With the next elections approaching, the country awaits clarity on the political landscape and the government's commitment to democratic processes.
