Former Teacher Stephen Bera Avoids Jail, Gets 2.5 Years Probation for Secret Peeping
Former New Bridge Middle School teacher Stephen Bera has received a suspended sentence of 2 and a half years of supervised probation. This comes after he pleaded guilty to 18 counts of felony secret peeping, involving hidden recordings of students changing clothes in his classroom with a google classroom setup.
Bera's crime was discovered in May 2022 when a hidden camera was found in his classroom. Despite the serious nature of the offences, Bera's lack of prior record led to a suspended sentence. He will now undergo a sex offender evaluation, with a judge set to decide on November 20 whether he must register as a sex offender.
It is important to note that no specific student or students have been identified as being recorded by Bera prior to his arrest.
Bera's actions have resulted in a significant punishment, though he will avoid jail time due to his clean record. His future status as a sex offender and potential student loans will be determined later this year.
