Foundation Dispute Successfully Resolved
A long-running legal dispute between two Swiss foundations has ended after a mediated settlement. The RaJoVita Foundation agreed to pay 50,000 Swiss francs to the Alterswohnungen Jona Foundation for planning costs linked to an abandoned care unit. The city of Rapperswil-Jona also stepped in to help resolve the conflict.
The disagreement began after the RaJoVita Foundation abandoned plans for a nursing home at the Porthof building in Rapperswil-Jona. The Alterswohnungen Jona Foundation had already incurred planning expenses and later sought compensation through a lawsuit. When negotiations failed, the case reached the St. Gallen Commercial Court.
In summer 2025, the municipal council intervened, bringing both sides to the table. By December, an agreement was reached: *RaJoVita* would cover 50,000 Swiss francs for the unrealised care unit plans. Additionally, the city pledged another 50,000 francs toward the *Alterswohnungen Jona* Foundation’s separate kindergarten project costs. The settlement avoids further legal battles and additional expenses for both parties. A neutral assessment at the St. Gallen court helped finalise the terms, closing the dispute that had dragged on since 2023.
The agreement ensures the Alterswohnungen Jona Foundation recovers part of its planning costs. With the city’s financial support, the foundation can now move forward without prolonged litigation. The settlement marks the end of a conflict that had strained relations between the two organisations.
