Augsten to bolster BSW profile in agriculture and environmental issues - Frank Augsten steps down as BSW faction leader in Thuringia
Frank Augsten has announced his resignation as leader of the BSW faction in Thuringia's state parliament. He took on the role less than a year ago, replacing Katja Wolf in December 2024. His decision comes as he seeks to refocus on policy work rather than leadership duties.
Augsten's departure is not linked to internal party tensions. He has stated that his choice is personal, driven by a desire to return to substantive issues. Before leading the BSW, he served as a Green Party lawmaker, bringing experience from both political backgrounds.
In his resignation statement, Augsten admitted he had spent too little time in his constituency offices. He also expressed frustration at missing out on deeper policy discussions. Now, he plans to concentrate on agriculture and environmental matters, areas he believes have been overlooked in recent debates. The BSW secured 15.8% of the vote in Thuringia's 2024 state election, making it the third-largest faction. While the exact number of faction members remains unclear, Augsten's exit marks a shift in leadership for the party.
Augsten's resignation will take effect in the coming weeks. His focus will now shift to legislative work, particularly in agriculture and the environment. The BSW will need to elect a new faction leader to replace him.
