More than 400 checks in the station district on Thursday - Frankfurt police launch massive drug crackdown in Bahnhofsviertel district
A large-scale police operation took place in Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel district on Thursday evening. Around 200 officers carried out raids targeting areas known for drug dealing. The crackdown resulted in checks on hundreds of individuals and the seizure of illegal substances.
The operation began with coordinated raids across the district. Officers stopped and searched 414 people, leading to 36 criminal complaints. One arrest warrant was also executed during the sweep.
Authorities confiscated various narcotics and prescription medications. For the first time, police used a nationwide pilot facial recognition app to identify suspects instantly. Hesse's Minister-President Boris Rhein and Interior Minister Roman Poseck were present to observe the operation. Poseck later described the raid as a clear warning to those breaking the law. Rhein stressed that stronger police presence, tighter controls, and modern technology would help improve public safety in the area.
The operation saw 36 criminal complaints filed and one arrest made. Illegal drugs and unprescribed medications were taken off the streets. Officials have signalled that such measures will continue as part of broader efforts to tackle crime in the district.
