CDU wins municipal election in Frankfurt - Frankfurt's CDU wins local elections as Feldmann's political comeback fails
Frankfurt's local elections have reshaped the city's political landscape. The CDU secured the highest share of the vote, while former mayor Peter Feldmann failed to regain a council seat. His newly formed party, Frankfurt – Sozial!, received minimal support at the polls. The CDU emerged as the leading party with 25% of the vote. This result gives them 23 seats in the 93-seat city parliament. The Greens followed in second place, winning 20.8% of the vote and 19 seats.
The SPD took third with 16.6%, earning 15 seats. The Left secured 9.2% of the vote, which translates to 9 seats. Meanwhile, the far-right AfD gained 8.2% and will hold 8 seats.
Volt, a newer party, received 4.8% of the vote, enough for 5 seats. The liberal FDP narrowly cleared the threshold with 4.6%, giving them 4 seats. Feldmann's Frankfurt – Sozial! managed just 0.4% of the vote, falling far short of representation.
Feldmann, who previously served as Frankfurt's mayor, will not return to the city council. His political future remains uncertain after this setback. The new city parliament will now reflect the election results, with the CDU holding the largest bloc. The Greens and SPD will also play significant roles, while smaller parties like Volt and the FDP secure a foothold. Feldmann's absence marks the end of his immediate political influence in Frankfurt.
