Noise due to disaster response drill in Frankfurt - Frankfurt's Massive Disaster Drill to Test Emergency Response This Weekend
A major disaster drill will take place at Frankfurt's old Griesheim industrial site from March 20 to 22. The exercise involves military helicopters, emergency teams, and multiple organisations. Local residents have been warned about potential disturbances during the event.
The simulation runs from Friday at 2 p.m. until Sunday at 2 p.m. Two German Armed Forces helicopters will operate throughout the period, supporting the exercise. Eight different agencies are participating in the large-scale drill.
Residents near the former industrial park should prepare for increased noise, particularly at night. Heavy traffic from emergency vehicles is also expected. This marks the first civil defence exercise of its kind in Germany in the past five years, as no other state or municipality has held a similar event involving the military at a disused industrial area since 2021.
The drill aims to test emergency response coordination across multiple agencies. Noise and traffic disruptions will be temporary but noticeable. Authorities have advised locals to plan ahead for the weekend's activities.
