Free Event in Menden Aims to Raise Awareness About Domestic Violence
A free event is set to take place at the Dorte-Hilleke Municipal Library in Menden on November 26, 2025, at 6:00 PM. The event, a joint initiative by the AWO Women’s Shelter, the library, and the City of Menden’s Office for Gender Equality, aims to raise awareness about domestic violence and provide support to survivors.
Merle Schumann-Basse, director of the AWO Women’s Shelter in Märkischer Kreis, will share her firsthand experiences and take questions from the audience. The shelter provides safety and assistance to survivors of domestic violence, helping them break free from the cycle of abuse. The event is part of the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign, which runs from November 25 to December 10 each year. Domestic violence, though often hidden, is a widespread issue in society, and open dialogue is seen as key to addressing it. Registration for the event is required by November 25, 2025, via stadtbuecherei@unsere-website or +49 2373 903-1600.
The event on November 26, 2025, is a chance for the community to come together, learn, and support those affected by domestic violence. By sharing stories and engaging in open dialogue, attendees can help challenge stereotypes, improve responses to violence, and prevent future violence.
