Freiburg braces for weekend protests on Gaza, climate and conscription
Freiburg residents and visitors can expect a busy weekend of protests and rallies, with several events planned across the city. On Saturday, November 15, an event titled 'Freedom for Gaza' will take place, featuring an information stand and a protest march. The following day, Friday, November 14, will see multiple demonstrations, including a climate protest and a rally against conscription.
The 'Freedom for Gaza' event will kick off with an information stand at 1:00 PM, followed by a march at 2:00 PM. Around 1,000 participants are anticipated. The march will cover a route including Werthmannstraße, Rempartstraße, Talstraße, and Kaiserbrücke. Parking garages will remain accessible, but short-term road closures may occur along the route. Additionally, the march will pass through Rotteckring, Friedrichring, and Kaiser-Joseph-Straße.
On Friday, a climate protest is planned from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, starting at Platz der Alten Synagoge with around 600 expected participants. Earlier in the day, a stationary rally against the reintroduction of conscription and far-right tendencies will occur at Mensagarten on Rempartstraße from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, with about 20 attendees expected. Lastly, a smaller rally regarding the EU-Mercosur trade agreement is scheduled for Saturday from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Augustinerplatz.
These events may lead to potential traffic disruptions and tram service interruptions. Residents and visitors are advised to plan their routes accordingly and be prepared for possible delays. The city encourages everyone to exercise patience and understanding as these events unfold.
