Freiburg businessman jailed for €19,000 unemployment benefits fraud
A Freiburg-based businessman has been sentenced for fraudulently claiming unemployment benefits. The 42-year-old, who ran a transport company between September 2021 and May 2023, concealed his earnings and wrongfully collected nearly €19,000.
The man, whose name has not been disclosed, earned approximately €59,000 from his transport business during the same period. Despite his active income, he failed to inform the job center, continuing to receive unemployment benefits to which he was not entitled.
The Lörrach customs office was aware of the man's transport company. However, the specifics of the case remain confidential. The Freiburg District Court found the man guilty of fraud and sentenced him to seven months in prison, suspended. The job center will now reclaim the unduly received benefits.
The businessman's fraudulent activities have resulted in a prison sentence and the repayment of the wrongfully claimed benefits. This serves as a reminder of the importance of honesty and transparency when dealing with unemployment benefits.
