Freiburg joins *Cities for Life* with a bold protest against Iran’s executions
Freiburg will join the global Cities for Life campaign on November 30, standing against the death penalty. The event includes a documentary screening, a panel discussion on Iran’s human rights record, and a symbolic lighting of the city’s theatre in blue. Organisers have also tied the date to a historic milestone—the abolition of capital punishment in Tuscany in 1786.
The centrepiece of the evening is the documentary White Torture, directed by imprisoned Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi. The film exposes the psychological torment of ‘white torture’, a method of extreme isolation used in Iranian prisons. The screening will take place at the Kommunales Kino at 7:30 pm.
The evening combines film, debate, and public action to draw attention to Iran’s prison system and the global movement to end executions. Freiburg’s participation in Cities for Life aligns with a tradition of activism, using art and dialogue to push for change. Tickets for the event are available through the Kommunales Kino website.
