Freiburg mourns Margot Queitsch, a tireless advocate for social justice

Margot Queitsch, a long-serving SPD city councillor in Freiburg, has died at the age of 79. Her passing marks the loss of a dedicated advocate who worked for decades on education, social affairs, and the common good.

Queitsch's political career spanned nearly 40 years. She served continuously on Freiburg's city council from 1980 to 2019. Between 1990 and 1999, she led the SPD's council faction, pushing for affordable housing and sports initiatives.

From 2001 to 2011, she represented Freiburg in the Baden-Württemberg state parliament. There, she focused on family, youth, and social policies while sitting on key committees. Beyond politics, she played a pivotal role in the SV Blau-Weiß Wiehre sports club, securing stadium upgrades and the integration of FFC. The club honoured her with its silver Ehrennadel in 2008 and gold in 2014. In 2019, Freiburg awarded her its Golden Seal for lifelong service. Colleagues across parties respected her principled stance and unwavering commitment to the city's welfare.

Queitsch leaves behind a legacy of persistent advocacy for Freiburg's residents. Her work in housing, education, and sports shaped the city for generations. The community remembers her as a tireless voice for fairness and progress.
