From Bishop's Driver to Mayor: Dominik Zeißner's Unlikely Political Rise

Dominik Zeißner has been elected the new first mayor of Wasserlosen after winning 55.1% of the vote on Sunday, March 8, 2026. His victory marks a career shift, as he steps down from his role as Bishop Franz Jung's personal driver in Würzburg—a position he held for nearly six years.

Zeißner previously served as the third mayor of Wasserlosen before securing the top position in the first round of voting. His transition from civic duty to full-time mayoral leadership will begin on May 1, with his final day at the diocese scheduled for April.

Bishop Jung publicly congratulated Zeißner on his success but admitted sadness at losing a trusted employee. The diocese had already started advertising for a replacement driver before the election results were announced. Although Bishop Jung holds a valid driver's licence, officials confirmed plans to hire a new chauffeur. The application process for Zeißner's former role is now underway, ensuring continuity for the bishop's transport needs.

Zeißner's move to mayoral office will take effect next month, leaving the diocese to finalise a new driver. His election reshapes both local government in Wasserlosen and the operational staff of the Würzburg Diocese.
