The image shows a group of people standing on top of a lush green field, some of them holding flags. There are bags and other objects scattered around the field, and in the background there are buildings, trees, light poles, and a clear blue sky. It appears to be a celebration of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, with the players celebrating their victory.

From cricket prodigy to IPL owner: Aryaman Birla's bold business leap

Aryaman Birla has transitioned from a promising cricketer to a key figure in India's business world. After retiring from professional cricket at just 22, he now holds leadership roles in the Aditya Birla Group. His recent moves include a major stake in one of the IPL's most valuable franchises.

Birla first made headlines in cricket when the Rajasthan Royals picked him in the 2018 IPL auction for ₹30 lakh. A left-handed batsman, he represented Madhya Pradesh in domestic matches and even scored an unbeaten century in the Ranji Trophy to help his team secure a draw. But by 2019, he stepped away from the sport to focus on business.

He soon took charge of Aditya Birla Ventures, the group's venture capital division. Later, he founded Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality, expanding the conglomerate's reach. His influence grew further as he joined the boards of major companies like Hindalco Industries and Grasim Industries. Now, a consortium led by the Aditya Birla Group has acquired a 100% stake in Royal Challengers Bengaluru for $1.78 billion. This deal follows a broader trend of rising IPL franchise valuations, with teams like Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans valued at around $1.26 billion each since 2022. Birla's dual experience in sports and corporate strategy positions him as a potential leader in shaping the league's future.

Birla's shift from cricket to high-stakes business has been swift. With the Aditya Birla Group now controlling a major IPL franchise, his role in sports and corporate decisions will likely grow. The acquisition of Royal Challengers Bengaluru marks another step in his expanding influence.
