From Switzerland to Seoul: How One Woman Turned a Dream Into Reality
Stéphanie Guillaume left Switzerland in 2022 to chase a long-held dream—living in South Korea. The move came after years of planning and a moment of clarity about her career path. Now self-employed, she is building a new life in Seoul while preparing to launch her own travel experience company.
Guillaume first visited South Korea at 22 and felt an immediate connection. She told her mother then that she wanted to live there one day. Years later, after realizing she had spent two years in a job she disliked, she decided to make a change.
In 2022, a conversation with a friend pushed her to act. She applied for a student visa through a language programme and quickly secured a place. Within a week of arriving in Seoul, she found both an apartment and a roommate. Today, she lives in a studio near Seoul Forest, enjoying the flexibility of freelance work.
Her next step is launching a business focused on travel experiences. The move has given her the freedom to shape her own schedule—a key reason she values self-employment.
Guillaume’s transition from Switzerland to South Korea marks a fresh start. She now balances freelance work with plans for her company, all while living in a city she loves. The move reflects her determination to turn a childhood dream into reality.
