Frozen stairwell nightmare ends after citizen reports spark urgent repairs
A malfunction in the hot water supply system caused severe icing inside a residential building in Berelekh. The issue, reported on social media, led to steam filling the stairwell and thick ice forming on walls and ceilings. Authorities have since stepped in to resolve the problem.
The Susuman District Prosecutor's Office launched an inspection of Building No. 19 on Pionerskaya Street after residents raised concerns online. Investigators found that damaged pipes had released steam, creating hazardous ice buildup in the staircases.
Under the prosecutor's supervision, Snezhnaya Dolina LLC began urgent repairs. By March 2, all ice had been removed from the affected areas. Officials confirmed that the violations were fully addressed during the works.
No further updates have been released regarding conditions inside the apartments. There is also no public record of additional steps taken since March 2 to ensure long-term housing safety.
The repairs followed direct oversight from prosecutors, ensuring the immediate hazards were cleared. While the stairwell icing has been resolved, no information is available on follow-up measures for the building's residents. The case highlights how public reports can prompt swift official action.
