Fugitive with illegal knife arrested after dodging 18-month prison term

A 33-year-old man has been arrested at Recklinghausen Central Station after evading an 18-month prison sentence. Federal police detained him on 31 January around 11:45, following an outstanding arrest warrant from the Essen Public Prosecutor’s Office. During the arrest, officers discovered he was carrying a banned butterfly knife.

The man was convicted in June 2023 by Gladbeck District Court for a string of offences. These included insult, driving without a licence, assault, theft, embezzlement, property damage, burglary, and breaching compulsory insurance laws. He received a one-year-and-six-month prison term but failed to report to serve his sentence.

The case highlights the enforcement of outstanding warrants and weapons laws. The man’s imprisonment follows his conviction for multiple crimes, with the added charge for carrying an illegal knife. His sentence will be served in full, as ordered by the court.
