Fulda's political rally ends peacefully despite minor protests and arrests
Fulda – On Saturday (March 28), the founding congress of the Hessian state branch of Generation Deutschland took place at the civic center in Fulda's Johannesberg district. Meanwhile, the alliance Fulda Stellt Sich Quer (Fulda Takes a Stand) registered a "street culture festival" on Von-Mengersen-Straße in Johannesberg with the city's public order office, along with a march from Olympiastraße in Fulda to Johannesberg. At its peak, around 550 people participated in the march, while the street festival drew up to 1,000 attendees.
Ahead of the gatherings, police prepared for a large-scale operation, deploying several hundred officers along with specialized resources—including mounted units, police dogs, and a drone.
Throughout the day, incidents remained isolated.
At around 10 a.m., a small group staged a sit-in blockade on an access road to the parking area near Johannesberg Cemetery. After police engaged in dialogue with the protesters, the blockade was voluntarily dismantled shortly afterward.
At approximately 11:50 a.m., officers temporarily detained a man near the stage at the street festival. According to current findings, he had disrupted the event and was subsequently expelled by the assembly organizer. Authorities have since launched an investigation into resistance against law enforcement, overseen by the Fulda Public Prosecutor's Office. Following police procedures, the individual was released and able to resume filming shortly afterward.
Additionally, police confiscated quartz-reinforced gloves from one person ahead of the assemblies and initiated an investigation for violating Hesse's Assembly Freedom Act.
With the gatherings proceeding largely without incident from a law enforcement perspective, police have drawn a positive conclusion from the day's operations. Authorities expressed their gratitude to all participants who demonstrated peacefully.
