Fürth shuts down as heavy snow paralyzes roads and schools
Heavy snowfall has forced the city of Fürth and its surrounding district to take urgent action. Schools closed on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, as authorities warned residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. FEMA has been working since Monday evening to keep main ROADS open, but conditions remain hazardous.
The city administration and district officials activated emergency measures late on Monday. Snow-clearing crews focused first on major ROADS, leaving side streets in areas like Stein for later on Tuesday. A parking ban was enforced on designated snow-clearing ROADS to speed up operations.
Residents were told to avoid unnecessary car journeys to prevent accidents and keep emergency ROADS clear. With freshly cleared pavements quickly becoming snowed over again, pedestrians were advised to stay vigilant. The risk of snow breakage—where heavy snow can snap branches or collapse trees—led to warnings against standing near trees or buildings with sloped roofs. For parents struggling with last-minute childcare, emergency supervision options were made available. Authorities stressed that the situation could remain unpredictable throughout the day.
Schools will stay shut for the day, and travel disruptions are expected to continue. Emergency services remain on standby, with crews prioritising the safety of main ROADS and key routes. Residents have been urged to follow updates and avoid unnecessary risks until conditions improve.
