Fürth’s Green Party pushes for bike lane expansion at parking’s expense
The Green Party in Fürth has pushed for the completion of a missing section of Priority Bike Route 2 along Stadelner Straße. Their recent motion calls for swift action on a long-delayed project that could reshape traffic flow in the area. The plan, however, may reduce parking availability on one side of the street.
The debate over this stretch of road began in 2020 when the city’s procurement committee asked the Construction and Public Works Committee to study 'Option A' in detail. This proposal includes protected bike lanes on both sides of Stadelner Straße, which would require removing parking spaces on one side. In September that year, the committee unanimously agreed to explore the option further, ensuring affected businesses were consulted due to potential parking losses.
The project remains in the planning phase, with no confirmed timeline for implementation. If approved, the changes would complete a key section of Priority Bike Route 2. The outcome will depend on balancing cycling improvements with the impact on local parking.
