Thomas Jung remains Mayor of Fürth - Fürth's Mayor Thomas Jung Wins Landslide Re-election for Sixth Term

Fürth's long-serving mayor, Thomas Jung, has secured another term in office with a commanding victory. The SPD politician won re-election on 8 March 2026, extending his leadership to nearly three decades. His latest election results reflect a slight dip from past highs but still leave opposition parties far behind.

Jung first became mayor in 2002 and has dominated Fürth's politics ever since. His latest win, with 72.13% of the vote, closely mirrors his 2020 performance of 72.98%. This marks a small decline from his peak in 2008, when he regularly topped 80%.

Opposition parties struggled to make an impact in the 2026 election. The CSU came second with just 8.01%, followed by the AfD on 7.29% and the Greens at 5.98%. No data on voter turnout was released for comparison with previous years.

If Jung completes his next term, he will have led the city for 30 years straight. His continued strong support suggests Fürth's political scene remains largely unchanged since 2020.

The election confirms Jung's enduring popularity, despite a gradual softening of his vote share over time. With no serious challenge from rival parties, his administration is set to guide Fürth for another six years. The result keeps the city's political balance firmly in favour of the SPD.
