Füssen’s beloved sports shop defies retail slump with bold expansion move
A long-standing sports shop in Füssen is bucking the trend of retail decline. Nordwand-Sports, run by Herbert and Silke Ott, is moving to a much larger premises. The expansion comes at a time when many nearby stores have shut their doors.
The Otts were not originally searching for a new location. But when the chance arose, they saw it as too good to pass up. Their current shop will close, and the business will reopen in a 300-square-metre unit at the entrance to the pedestrian zone—nearly double their previous space.
The relocation will give Nordwand-Sports more room for products and customers. It also brings a rare boost to Füssen’s retail scene, where vacancies have become common. The Otts’ decision highlights both their confidence in the business and the challenges facing the town’s shopping area.
