Future of A14 Karstadt Service Area Hangs in Balance

The future of a proposed service area near the A14 at Karstadt remains uncertain. Hoyer SE, the main investor, has put the plans on hold due to various challenges, leaving the municipality of Karstadt eager for progress.

The project's initial investor, the Lohmann Group, withdrew during the COVID-19 pandemic, setting back the plans. Since then, Hoyer SE has been considering the project but faces several hurdles. Delays in the A14 highway's new construction and uncertainty about future fuel and charging station regulations have led Hoyer to reconsider the investment.

The municipality of Karstadt, however, is keen on establishing the service area on its industrial estate near the A14/B5. Originally planned to begin construction in August 2023, the project has been delayed. As of now, there are no confirmed, publicly known reports of any company presenting concrete plans for the service area. The development of such projects in Germany is typically strictly regulated, involving administrative bodies, investors, and construction companies, but detailed information is usually only released in later planning phases.

The status of the proposed service area near the A14 at Karstadt remains unclear. While the municipality of Karstadt is interested in the project, Hoyer SE's uncertainty about future requirements and regulations has led to delays. As of Oktober 2025, there are no confirmed, publicly known plans for the service area. For more precise information, interested parties should contact the relevant authorities or local economic development offices.
