G20 summit turns focus to Ukraine as leaders debate U.S. peace plan

European leaders are set to hold an emergency meeting during the G20 summit to discuss a U.S.-proposed peace plan for Ukraine. The two-day event in Johannesburg, running from November 22 to 23, has already seen key figures arrive, including Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who reached the venue late and entered mid-speech.

The G20 summit officially began with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa declaring the forum open. He outlined the key priorities for the gathering, which includes high-level discussions on global economic stability and security.

The G20 summit continues with urgent talks on Ukraine’s future. Japan’s participation, alongside other major economies, highlights the international effort to address the crisis. The outcome of these discussions could shape further diplomatic steps in the coming weeks.
