Lottery Fraud: Gas Station Attendant Hides Customer's Million-Dollar Win - Win Gone - Gas station clerk steals €1.47M lottery win but fails to cash in
A gas station clerk in Grasbrunn has been convicted of fraud after hiding a customer's €1.47 million lottery win. The ticket, left behind in April 2024, belonged to an unidentified winner who never realised their fortune. The clerk's attempt to claim the prize himself ultimately failed.
The incident began when a customer played the Spiel 77 draw and left their ticket at the gas station. The clerk checked the numbers and discovered a €1,477,777 win. Instead of informing the customer, he told them there was no prize.
Later, the clerk tried to collect the winnings at the lottery headquarters. However, officials noticed inconsistencies, including his unique registration number on the ticket. This led to his arrest and a subsequent fraud conviction. A court sentenced the clerk to 15 months in prison, though the term was suspended. The original winner has never come forward, leaving the prize unclaimed. Without the ticket, authorities confirm no valid claim can be made.
The case leaves the true winner unidentified and the prize effectively lost. The clerk's fraud conviction stands, but the money remains uncollected. Lotto Bayern and authorities have closed the investigation with no further leads.
