Gaza Documentary Screening Moved After Regal Cinemas Faces Pressure in Potsdam

A planned screening of the documentary Kill Zone: Inside Gaza in Potsdam was suddenly moved after the venue faced intense pressure. The event, organised by the Potsdam Network for Palestine, had been set for 29 November 2025 at Regal Cinemas. The last-minute change sparked criticism from local politicians and activists.

The controversy began when Brandenburg’s antisemitism commissioner, Andreas Büttner, became involved. An employee from his office contacted the cinema, acting on his instructions. Büttner denies pressuring the venue, insisting the decision to cancel came solely from Regal Cinemas.

The documentary will now be shown at Café Madia, but the incident has left lingering questions. Regal Cinemas’ cancellation and the alleged pressure behind it have put Brandenburg’s handling of political events under scrutiny. The debate over free expression and institutional influence continues.
