Georgia Abolishes Vocational Skills Agency in Major Education Restructuring
The Government of Georgia has announced the abolition of the agency Vocational Skills Agency (AIPA) on January 1, 2026. This move is part of a broader restructuring process within the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth aimed at improving institutional efficiency through consolidation.
The agency, established in 2021, promoted vocational education programs tailored to labor market demands. However, no successor has been named to replace Irine Margishvili, the agency's current director, following its abolition.
The Ministry will create a new Strategic and Inclusive Development Department to strengthen inclusive education policies. Meanwhile, the functions of the Youth Department will be taken over by the LEPL Youth Agency. The International Education Center (LEPL) will also be terminated as part of the reorganization. The agency and the International Education Center will continue their functions within the Ministry until the abolition.
The abolition of the agency and the International Education Center is a significant step in the Ministry's restructuring process. While no successor has been named for the agency's director, the creation of new departments signals a focus on strategic and inclusive development in education.
