Georgian Smuggler Caught With 55,000 Cigarettes at Frankfurt Airport

A 41-year-old Georgian man was caught trying to smuggle thousands of cigarettes through Frankfurt Airport. The incident happened on December 10, 2025, as he travelled from Yerevan, Armenia, to Lyon, France. Authorities seized the contraband and later deported him back to Armenia.

Federal police at Frankfurt/Main Airport discovered 64 kilograms of cigarettes hidden in the man’s luggage. The haul contained around 55,000 individual cigarettes, concealed during his transit stop.

During questioning, the traveller admitted he had been promised $400 for delivering the smuggled goods. He claimed unnamed individuals had arranged the payment upon successful arrival in Lyon. After completing necessary procedures, German authorities deported the man back to Armenia. The cigarettes remained confiscated as part of the investigation.

The smuggling attempt was halted before the cigarettes could reach their intended destination. The man left Germany without the promised payment or the seized goods. Authorities continue to monitor similar transit routes for illegal activity.
